Windows 95 INF-disk for Qume Monitors Revision history see file QUME_TFT.INF ==================================== Hafra Elektronik GmbH Qume-Divison Halskestr. 16 D-47877 Willich Tel. +49 (0)2154 4897-0 Fax +49 (0)2154 4897-15 Email info@qume.de ==================================== Contents I) Introduction II) Installation Procedure III) De-Installation IV) Appendix: List of all monitors which are supported by QUME.INF I) Introduction --------------- ==Benefits of file QUME_TFT.INF:== By installing the file QUME_TFT.INF the user is able to select the right one out of different Qume monitors in Windows 95. The INF-file provides Windows 95/98 with the following data: * Monitor-Model name * Maximum Resolution * Horizontal Scan frequency range (kHz) * Vertical Scan frequency range (Hz) * VESA DPMS support Yes/No ==What QUME_TFT.INF does NOT do for you:== The file is no "real" driver! The adjustment of Refreshrate / Resolution- combinations must be performed by specific drivers which fit the graphics controller chip (e.g. the "WinMan"-software for ELSA graphics cards for S3 chipset) of the used VGA video adapter card. In most cases these special Windows 95 drivers do not care about the INF-entry at all and overwrite the settings/infos of the INF-entry respectively administer the necessary parameters/chipset register values "by themselves". If you suspect your Qume TFT Monitor to be able to perform better in any way (e.g. displaying the picture with a higher refreshrate), please first check if you have installed the appropriate Windows 95 driver for your graphics controller. Note that in most cases the built-in drivers which are shipped with a "new" Windows 95 software distribution provide only basic support for the various chipsets and should be upgraded by the latest revisions which can be down- loaded from the appropriate company's internet site. Summary: * Download and install the latest Windows 95/98 driver from the manufacturer of your graphics controller. Adjust the display mode according to the infor- mation included. * QUME_TFT.INF is not a driver, but only an information file for Windows 95 which #might# be used/read by your controller's driver software, but in most cases the adjustments for the "perfect picture" will not be handled by the *.INF- file. * Of course you can use both QUME_TFT.INF and the "real" driver at the same time. * The crucial value for a monitor's display performance capability is its horizontal refreshrate (kHz) specification. You should know this value for your model. If in doubt give Qume's tech support a call. II) Installation Procedure --------------------------- 1. Start the popup window which lists "Properties" as its last entry: This can be done easily by clicking once with the right mouse button on the empty desktop background. 2. Click on the last entry "Properties" ==> The Display Properties window appears. 3. Click on the "Settings" tab at the top of the Display Properties window. 4. Click on the "Change Display Type" button at the lower right of the window. 5. Click on "Change" at the bottom right next to the Monitor Type section of the Change Display Type window. 6. Click on button "Have Disk" and insert the QUME Windows95 INF-floppy in the appropriate floppy disk drive and confirm the windows "Install from Disk" by clicking on the "OK"-button. (In case you downloaded the Qume-inf file from the BBS or received by email click on "Browse" first and enter the path where you saved the downloaded file to.) 7. In the "Select Device" window the option "Show all devices" should be activated. 8. Now select your Qume model out of the list. If you are not sure about the identification of your Qume monitor, do not hesitate to call Qume tech support. After highlighting the desired entry, confirm with "O.K". 9. After a little while the field "Monitor Type" within the window "Change Display Type" will be updated with the specific entry you selected before. 10. Close all dialogue boxes. Installation is finished. Note: Informationen about all Qume monitors have been transferred to your hard disk now, you do not need to repeat the above procedure when changing the monitor. Reminder: Refreshrates are set by the video adapter's utilities/drivers not by QUME_TFT.INF ! III) De-Installation (usually not necessary) -------------------------------------------- 1. Delete the file OEMx.INF in the (hidden) directory C:\WINDOWS\INF. Important Note: Delete the one file OEMx.INF #only#, which corresponds to the file QUME.INF on the Qume floppy disk (may be confirmed by comparing the filesize and/or looking at the files with any editor)! 2. After activating the dialogue "Konfiguration ändern" according to point II) above ("Installation") Windows 95 will reinitialize its video driver-data- base automatically.
